class="content_sandbox"> <tr> <td align="center"> <h2> ILA Calls on AFL-CIO to Expand Del Monte Boycott to Federation s 11.5 Million Members </h2> </td> <td align="right" valign="bottom" Port of Philadelphia between the International Longshoremen s Association, AFL-CIO and Del Monte Fresh Produce has prompted the ILA to ask the AFL-CIO to initiate a nationwide boycott of Del Monte products by all AFL-CIO affiliates, according to a letter sent to AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka by ILA president Richard P. Hughes, Jr. A boycott by the AFL-CIO would raise awareness of the issue to the AFL-CIO 11.5 million members. <br /><br /> The ILA has serviced Del Monte through a stevedore at the Pier 5, Camden, New Jersey facility for the past 22 years working professionally and efficiently. On July 22, 2010 Del Monte demanded through its stevedore that the ILA reduce labor costs by $5 million and imposed an unreasonable four-day deadline on the ILA to meet its demands. <br /><br /> The ILA-represented employees at this terminal had not had a wage rate increase for 19 years, but agreed to reduce their wages up to 25%, cut manning, and eliminate possibly certain benefits thereby reducing labor costs by $5 million. Despite these concessions, Del Monte served notice through its stevedore that it is moving to a Gloucester, New Jersey facility.
